Performance

Outstanding thermal performance, low air leakage, high solar reflectivity and BBA certified life expectancy “in excess of 40 years” are all important characteristics of Sarnafil roofing systems.

Sarnafil roofs achieve low ‘Ecopoint’ scores in the ‘Green Guide to Specification’ and can provide excellent contributions to BREEAM ratings.

Sika Sarnafil membranes are compliant with the majority of relevant roofing standards and codes of practice worldwide, including BS EN 13956:2005 ‘Flexible sheet for waterproofing - Plastic and rubber sheets for roof waterproofing. Definitions and characteristics’, Swiss SIA, German DIN tests, Factory Mutual, FLL green roof, Energy Smart and many more.

Amongst the toughest exposed roofing tests are the Swiss SIA tests for UV ageing. SIA 280 requires exposure to 5,000 hours of UV testing without the membrane showing surface crazing under a microscope. While this is a challenge in itself, Sika Sarnafil requires all its membranes to withstand 10,000 hours of UV without surface crazing.

The test for suitability of membranes in green roof applications is the German FLL testing. Here a 1m x 1m x 1m box is lined with the test membrane, prior to being filled with growing medium and aggressive root plants such as Rhizomes. If the membrane and its joints survive the 2 year test period, they pass this extensive test.

Of course, Sika Sarnafil’s manufacturing facility in Switzerland is ISO 14001:2004 and ISO 9001:2000 registered and Sika Sarnafil are ISO 9001:2008 registered in the UK.
